EXPOCHICAGO

Hyde Park Art Center proudly presents a mini exhibition of new sculptural works by artist Sofía Fernández Díaz, whose practice builds intimate connections between found objects and craft. Combining decaying objects, such as bottle caps and rusted pipes collected on daily walks, with traditional processes learned through a decade of exchange with Mexican artisans, such as sculpting with beeswax, natural dyeing, and basket weaving, Sofía invents new material relationships through the lens of play. Through her juxtaposition of these materials into anthropomorphic compositions, she urges reflection on environmental impact and the overlooked beauty in decay.

Sofía is an alum of two Hyde Park Art Center programs, the Ground Floor Biennial and the Radicle Studio Residency. This installation is curated by Tran Tran and Jeff Robinson.

Tran Tran, thank you for the photos
